Busy day for High Court

The Rarotonga High Court was inundated with criminal cases yesterday, with a total of 42 people making appearances.

Nine people appeared on charges of fighting in a public place and 16 on various driving charges, including three drivers who failed to stop at stop signs.

There were also five who were caught driving while being disqualified, two for careless driving, three for excess blood alcohol and one for refusing a breathalyser test.

JP John Kenning was also busy with four cases of assault on a female as well as theft, theft as a servant, burglary, common assault and contempt of court. 

Last Wednesday the court heard 29 cases, many of which were adjourned for a week, and some for as long as a month.
