Patrol boat visit coincides with arrival of navy chief

The French Navy is in town this week with the arrival of the French patrol boat FS Bougainville which is now dockside at Avatiu.

Captained by Commander Owen McNeill since last year the three-year-old D’Enrecasteaux class warship is crewed by 23 naval personnel.

The Bougainville is on a four-day goodwill visit to the Cook Islands and during that time local people are welcome to take a tour of the vessel in groups of no more than 15.

To arrange a visit to the ship  people shoud contact the Honorary French Consul to the Cook Islands, Patricia Barton.

The arrival of the Bougainville coinicides with a vist to Rarotonga by the French Navy’s Rear Admiral Laurent Lebreton tomorrow.
