Police search for young knife attacker

Thursday March 29, 2018 Written by Published in Crime

The Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) of the Cook Islands Police is reaching out to the community for information regarding an alleged stabbing incident involving two young boys at Tutakimoa on March 19.

They are asking any members of the public to come forward if they have any information regarding an incident in which two boys were playing with a soccer ball near the road, when the older boy produced a knife and stabbed his 12-year-old companion, in what has been described as a completely unprovoked attack.

The younger boy received cut marks around his head and torso area. Police say that the victim was given a medical examination, but his injuries were not serious.

CIB Detective Sergeant Johnny George said the alleged offender was described as being of a skinny build, approximately 1.6m tall, fair in complexion, and had short, dark hair with a fringe. At the time of the alleged offence the boy was wearing a maroon or red t-shirt with a “Nike” symbol on the front, and black shorts.

George says police are concerned about the report as the presence of a knife in public is a serious safety issue. Officers would like to hear from anyone who saw the boys playing, or anyone else who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

They say that they will treat all information as confidential.
