Motorists are asked to take extra care on the roads this Sunday, as members of the Cook Islands Triathlon Association will be out in force for the Pauline Ataera memorial ride.

The memorial ride marks the second anniversary of beloved cycling enthusiast Ataera who was affectionately known as ‘Granny’ to those in the triathlon community.

Ataera was involved in an accident and was hit by a car while cycling along the main road at Matavera and passed away from her injuries.

She was one of the association’s longest-serving members and held a number of titles and records with the group.

Secretary of the triathlon association Jennie George says the ride will be at a nice easy pace, remembering ‘Granny’ as they make their way around the island.

The ride will start from the Tikioki Triathlon site at 8am and will go in an anti-clockwise direction around the island, stopping for a few minutes at the site of the accident to place flowers and pay respects.

It will be an easy paced ride and all are welcome to join the cycle in remembering ‘Granny’.
