If you happen to be at the Punanga Nui Market today, look out for a pink stall, probably the only pink stall you will see at the market, and head on over.
Owned and operated by the Sunielia Tom, the family business is known as Goo Fam Sweets and specialises in candy floss.
Tom hails from a family of six siblings and has always been particularly fond of children.
After recently just giving birth to a baby, she thought that starting up a small business on her own might just be the best idea to support herself and her new family.
The business started just yesterday and will be a regular feature at the Punanga Nui, especially during the week of Te Maeva Nui celebrations.
Tom says she is also considering joining the vendors the highly popular Muri Night Market soon and is confident her new business will go down a treat.
“It’s all about the kids and we all know kids love their candy.
“We currently have only one flavoured colour candy floss which is vanilla pink and I know that everyone who buys it will love it.
The candy floss machine was recently purchased in Australia with the help of her new-born baby boy’s namesake.
“My baby’s namesake called me up and asked whether I wanted to go back to work. He said I could do that or he could just send us money to help me look after my baby.
“I used to work at Pacific Resort, and since I love kids, I thought of this business idea. I mean why not?
“Everyone loves candy floss and now there’s a business that caters specifically for them.”
If you are thinking of buying candy floss from the Goo Fam Sweets, its $4 for a candy floss that comes on a stick or $3 for a bunch of candy floss encased in a Ziploc bag.
“Come on down and try out our new business,” says Tom.
“Bring your friends and your loved ones and try it out for yourselves.
“This is something new, and I’m sure it will appeal to just about everyone.”
