Music legend makes brief visit

Tuesday February 28, 2017 Written by Published in Entertainment

Legendary Cook Islands musician Jon Lindsay made a brief visit to Rarotonga last weekend, performing a special one-off beach concert with band Kokojamaz at the Islander Hotel’s Hula Bar.

Playing a mix of Cook Islands and rock and jazz favourites, Lindsay showed he has lost none of his firepower on guitar and was in fine voice, attracting a good audience of mature and younger punters. The latter prompted Lindsay to include an energetic set of material which went down well with the party bus crowd. Lindsay was to have been the subject of a profile in today’s CI News but health problems prevented it going ahead. The veteran singer/guitarist has been on dialysis treatment for some time, meaning his visits to his home country have to be brief these days. This week he also underwent an eye operation, but promised he’d be well enough to respond to some questions soon.

“I’ll let you know as soon as I can see my notes,” he quipped.
