OPINION: We have come out totally and absolutely unscathed, untouched and unviolated.

“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My Name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you” (John 14:26)

We have often heard and read of common expressions like, ‘people behind the scenes, quiet achievers, shadow ministers, unsung soldiers, unseen guest, unidentified heroes or heroines and so forth’.

These are people who may not be in the fore, in focus, in the lead, in the limelight, unknown and invisible yet very much apart and plays some big roles in bringing to reality and fulfilment of so many success stories, accomplishments and achievements realized, recognized, reached and obtained.

Thanks to Dr Josephine Aumea Herman Tepai who in her role as Secretary of health ministry Te Marae Ora may have been the prime mover and instigator of a most successful health precautionary and preventative health measures and programs in all our battles against the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic, supported by our government and later picked up by the rest of our nation and people of Cook Islands.

But in actual fact and in reality, there is no denying nor downplaying of how in so many meetings that I have attended, Dr Herman together with her executive officers unrelentingly, competently and effectively put in place their entire staff and ministry (doctors, nurses and all health employees) so vital was their passion and no drawing back executed course of actions from day one till today.

One by one, key stakeholders were called and invited to join force –  all three Pillars of our nation, all government ministries, traditional and religious leaders; then our business community leaders, non-government organisation leaders, then slowly working our ways right down to the very grassroot levels of our society, even our little children had their own part to play that gradually developed into highlighting and further executing our Tourism Kia Orana Values, Mana Tiaki Concepts, to a very simple, brilliantly, skilfully and down to earth newly-composed most popular TV promotional song and dance ‘Orei te rima – Wash your hands’.

Out of that initial motivational brilliance by our health ministry, our puna health clinics were born; the most vulnerable elderly, infants and all forms of disabilities were reached and cordoned for safety and protection’s sake from this killer virus which according to John Hopkins University statistics currently stands at more than 6.5 million cases of Covid 19 reported worldwide, including at least 386,000 deaths.

All our thousands of tourists, our major source of input and boosters to our economic sustenance and prosperity finally disappeared like just evaporated in thin air. Still to this day, into our sixth month under this Covid 19 pandemic scare, we are left as Kuki Airani to ourselves with only one vital Air New Zealand link once a week and service to New Zealand only and back.

Thanks also to a few more shipping freight services supplying us with much needed cargoes again from out of New Zealand with Bluesky and now Vodafone still keeping us online and connected to the rest of the world.

Each and everyone of us, in one way or another, seen or unseen, known or unknown, heard or unheard all became the ‘background helpers’ to our success story, song, music, very life and existence to remaining Covid-free to this very day – Friday June 4, 2020.

I wonder how many of us, value and consider this a profound, powerful, miraculous and ultimate sacrifice achievement by us all who remained humble, prayerful and vigilant on our very own Kuki soil?

Though many only saw as far as their nose, rather than grasp the fuller and bigger picture to have come out totally and absolutely unscathed, untouched and unviolated by this most evil, wicked and demonic onslaught of the adversary Satan himself.

Yet, there still remaineth One who is our real and true both fore and background helper, who lives in us all, in whose image and after his likeness have we all been created. “In the image of God created He him; male and female created He them” (Genesis 1:27b)

Must I reemphasise even more also of this unseen yet more realistic power that is promised to come upon all who shall believe, that is the promised gift of the Holy Ghost?

God manifested in the flesh in Jesus Christ, touched down on a sin-ridden earth to save all of mankind of their sins and death, to restore and redeem them back to a life of sinlessness and eternal life with Him. He lived his life with absolute innocence, hurt and harmed nobody, loved, respected and valued all of mankind, lived, died and shed his precious blood for the remission of all sins and offered salvation to all mankind.

Abraham who became a Patriarch, Moses a great Jewish leader, Aaron and Eliesa chosen high priests, Elijah and John the Baptist great prophets, Peter and Paul great Apostles but the unseen background helper was the Spirit of God in them. Women also, like Sarah Mother of all nations, Judge Deborah, Queen Esther, Moabitess Ruth great, great grandmother of Jesus, Mary most favoured of all women biological mother of Jesus, Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary mother of James and other women first witnesses of the risen Christ, Samaritan first woman evangelist and preacher all had this same Spirit of Jesus Christ.

Jesus promised that same gift even to us all today who shall believe and follow him both in this life and the life to come.

Thus, the Apostle Paul confirms in Galatians 2:20: “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

I therefore, dare and swear by Almighty God in Jesus Christ – he alone is our truest friend, closest than any brother, only a prayer distance away, his email and mobile number is Jeremiah@33:3.heaven, “Call unto Me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not”.

God continues to save, protect, preserve and watch over our still Covid-free beautiful nation and people of the Cook Islands, also our beautiful overseas guests and visitors still with us and all nations and people of the whole world whom Jesus also died and shed his blood for.

Have a safe and blessed Jesus’ weekend, Kia Orana e Kia Manuia rava!
