Leave (Akaruke) + Cleave (Tatomo) + Weave (Rangaranga) = One Flesh/Body
There are four divine and biblical reasons why there is marriage:
1.Not good for man to be alone.
“And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him” (Genesis 2: 18).
Help meet in this context means, the best and most perfect fit. A man or woman can spend hours in a clothing shop trying to just get that right size, colour, design or the one that best suits or the perfect fit. “And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found a help meet for him” (Genesis 2: 20).
Sometimes, the best choice for very picky and fussy people to wear is not found in the shops but home or tailor-made.
“And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof. And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man” (Genesis 2: 21 – 23). Woman was tailor-made by God from a rib from the side of Man as Man was formed by God from out of the dust of the earth, uniquely and distinctly both were specifically handled by the hands of Almighty God unlike all others of creation by the utterance of his word “…let there be…” all came into existence. As both Man and Woman were tailor-made by God, they were his masterpiece, the pinnacle and crown of his creation. Together, they bear the image of God, for that same reason he chose them to be husband and wife to continue his divine will for the good and benefit of all mankind upon earth.
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth” (Genesis 1: 27 & 28).
Adam, as the Bible tells us is the first human and not an ape that first walked the earth. Adam is also the first name given by God to any human being. The word Adam is connected with the other two Hebrew words ‘dam - blood’ and ‘adamah – ground/earth. It matches perfectly with the statement that the “lord God made man from the dust of the ground” (Gen. 2: 7), and the prohibition of eating any meat with blood still in it, because the soul of any living being is in the blood (Gen. 9: 4). Mankind (Adam) and ground (Adamah) were bonded together at the time of creation. The role given to Adam by God is clear; he is to rule God’s creation by working the ground (Adamah). The word for work and worship is exactly the same in Hebrew (Avoda). Adam was to serve God as his royal appointee to lovingly take care of God’s magnificent work of creation. Before the fall of humanity there was work. In fact the work was worship, and the worship was the work. That is why marriage is so very important, because the God-ordained not man-ordained marriage is a continued covenant relationship between God and mankind as fellow stewards over God’s earthly vineyard.
2. For man to find him a wife.
“Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord” (Proverbs 18: 22).
Holy Scripture did not say for a Man to find for him a girlfriend but a wife, and in doing so findeth a good and blessed thing, and therefore wins the favour or pleasure of the Lord. It is not a woman or a lady just for the night or for a time only but for life.
Marriage is a lifetime relationship and God is obligated to shower blessings and favour throughout the many years and days of that marriage, providing that man meets his side of the deal or commitment. Many fall short of this marriage promised blessings because their love of the world is greater than their love for God. “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, takes precedence and preeminence in a carnal mind than love for God” (1 John 3: 15 – 16).
Must I remind, marriage is of God, any marriage whether formalized, licensed or officiated outside God is not marriage at all but only an agenda or programme of man and still living in a sin of fornication.
Obviously we see a big drift from what used to be conservative Christian marriage (now considered old fashioned) to secular marriage. We also see the sanctity of marriage hugely watered down to less or no mention of God, prayer or the word of God at all. Much focus is highlighted at the ‘all on the house’ or ‘beer party celebration’ aftermath where any Tom, Dick, Jane and Harry can become the licensed marriage celebrant, a touristy package deal and very attractive, money-making worldly gimmick.
3.To avoid fornication or sexual immorality.
“It is good for a man not to touch (have sexual intercourse with) a woman. Nevertheless, to avoid (sin) fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. The wife hath not power of her own body but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that satan tempt you not for your incontinency” (1 Corinthians 7: 1 – 5). There is a clear indication here that sex before and outside of marriage is not of God and there definitely is no such thing as a girlfriend or boyfriend on courting and dating kind of trial relationship. A man who has strong feeling for a woman shows real love and respect by keeping both their purity till the day of their marriage. In doing so, if blessed with children, they all become heirs and leaves no conflicts with others prior or outside the sanctified relationship. As satan is always the author of confusion, a thief, killer and destroyer (John 10: 10); his number one target is to ultimately destroy the marriage and in succeeding, he creates more chaos and disorderliness in society and the whole world.
4.Sexual sins is top of the listed 17 works of the flesh.
“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these: Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness…along with the rest mentioned, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God” (Galatians 5: 18 – 21). All four areas of sexual abuse or perversion tops the list of concern, real and true Christian marriage is the only answer.
Therefore, as the Apostle Paul stated in the above scriptures, in order to avoid such form of sexual immorality or waywardness for a man or woman to seek and settle in marriage fulfilment. He speaks even for the unmarried and widows, “But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn” (1 Cor. 7: 9).
Marriage is the most attacked human institution or relationship than any other, while worldliness and ungodliness push more and more for alternative and immoral kinds of lifestyle just to destroy the one Body family unit that God has intended from the very foundation of times.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, please reach unto all marriages that are on shaky grounds or going through some rough patches and crisis situations, or already at breaking points; command your deliverance, healing and miracle to just save and for the children’s sake reconcile the mums and dads; reignite, strengthen and deepen their love for each other like never before…in Jesus name, Amen.
God bless, secure, restore and reconcile all marriages back to the Creator of Marriage, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Have another safe, pleasant and Jesus blessed weekend.
